Today we celebrate the International Mountain Day. The decision for marking the day was made at the UN General Assembly in 2002. The aim is to promote the importance of mountains for human life and sustainable development of mountain areas.

Mountaineering in Bulgaria is among the preferred ways of recreation. There are 39 mountains in this country - small and large. They are diverse and available to tourists during the 4 seasons. There are 8 summits that are over 2000 meters high. These are Musala /Rila/, Vihren /Pirin/, Botev /Stara Planina/, Cherni Vrah /Vitosha/, Ruen /Osogovska Mountain/, Gotsev /Slavyanka/, Golyam Perelik /Rhodopes/, Radomir /Belasitsa/.
