Nickolay Mladenov unable to assume position of UN Libya Envoy

Nickolay Mladenov

Nickolay Mladenov has told United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres that he will be unable to assume the position of United Nations Libya Envoy due to “personal and family reasons”, Reuters informed. Mladenov served until recently as the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.

The U.N. Security Council approved last week Guterres’s proposal to appoint Mladenov as Libya Mediator and Norwegian Tor Wennesland to succeed Mladenov as Middle East envoy.

Nickolay Mladenov told Guterres on Monday that he “will not be able to take up the position of Libya Envoy due to family and personal reasons”, a U.N. spokesman announced, BTA reports.
