Covid-19 situation in Bulgaria improving steadily
The anti-epidemic measures have yielded extremely positive results in Bulgaria, this country’s Minister of Health Professor Kostadin Angelov announced at the regular weekly briefing. In 15 Bulgarian districts, Covid-19 incidence has dropped to 150 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people. The number of coronavirus recoveries is three times higher than the number of new infections. There is also increased confidence in Covid-19 vaccines among medical staff. The tendency of a drop in the number of Covid-19 patients being treated in hospitals continues.
Bulgaria ranks 27th in the European Union in terms of coronavirus incidence and 9th in Covid-19 mortality, Chief State Health Inspector Associate Professor Angel Kunchev announced at the briefing. Bulgaria occupies a position in the middle of the EU ranking in number of the coronavirus tests performed.
Percentage of inoculations in Bulgaria similar to those in Finland, Czechia and Netherlands: Professor Todor Kantardzhiev
17,038 Covid-19 vaccines have so far been administered in Bulgaria. The percentage of inoculations in Bulgaria is similar to those in Finland, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. There have been two inoculations per 1,000 people in Bulgaria, Professor Todor Kantardzhiev, Director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases and member of the National Operational Headquarters for Combating Coronavirus said for BNT.
In his view, it is highly likely that the "British strain" of the virus is already in Bulgaria, for which there are indirect data. Professor Kantardzhiev predicts a serious decrease in the number of new coronavirus infections in the summer. In his words, the immunity from Covid-19 vaccines lasts for 7 to 8 months.

Another 4,000 doses the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine are expected by the end of January and will be delivered in other regions. Inoculation with the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine requires two doses. The second dose is administered 28 days after the first one.
