The date April 4 has been chosen by President Rumen Radev to hold parliamentary elections after extensive consultations, Vice President Iliana Iotova told BNR. The postponement by a week of the date he originally set was made in order to achieve "the necessary changes for safe and transparent elections".

The vice president clarified that the Bulgarian head of state began consultations with political organizations back in December, but the government and GERB did not respond to the invitations. Iliana Iotova also said that during the last year there had been a tacit refusal to make serious changes in the legislation in order to make the elections fair and accessible to all citizens. There was also no political will to organize the voting of the Bulgarian community abroad, she added.

"If falsifications are allowed on election day and video surveillance is not introduced, unpleasant incidents can occur", Vice President Iotova said.
