Environmentalists in Bulgaria call for the introduction of a deposit system for all bottles in the country as a long-term solution to disposable plastic pollution. They expressed their position with a symbolic two-meter wave of waste, which "flooded" the entrance of the Ministry of Environment and Water. The action was organized by Greenpeace - Bulgaria and the environmental association Za Zemiata (For the Earth). The protest comes after recent heavy rainfalls made river levels rise and the water dragged huge amounts of plastic debris from ravines and uncultivated land.
After the protest action, the Deputy Minister of Environment Slaveya Stoyanova announced that the initiation of public discussions on the restriction of disposable plastic products was forthcoming.
