Today marks the 143rd anniversary of the liberation of Burgas from Ottoman domination.
The celebrations in the city on the Black Sea started with a flag-raising ritual – of the flags of Bulgaria, the EU and Burgas municipality, followed by a church service. Dozens of people laid down flowers at the monument to the Russian liberators in the Marine Garden.
To honour the anniversary the Regional Museum of History opened its doors to visitors, free of charge. The museum is hosting the exhibition “The road to freedom”. The exposition includes texts, documents, photographs and etchings tracing the historical events leading up to the liberation of Bulgaria on 3 March, 1878.
