At a meeting with representatives of the National Association of Mayors in Bulgaria, Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev said that the key condition for the successful development of the country was financial independence and greater freedom in decision-making at the local level.

Talking to the president, the mayors highlighted the main problems facing small settlements such as the systematic failure to deal with domestic crime and the lack of access to health care. They demanded that "healthcare be not a trade, but a state policy that reaches even the most isolated towns and villages."

The mayors are about to prepare their proposals for organizational and legislative changes to facilitate the work of local authorities.
