MEPs criticise more expensive UK work visas for Bulgarians

MEPs voiced criticism against UK's discrimination against citizens of Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Romania and Slovenia in issuing work visas. In a letter to the European Commission, they called for intervention to ensure that all EU citizens have equal rights.

Newcomers to the island from 21 EU countries are given a £ 55 discount when applying for a work permit to enter the UK. But there is no such discount for Bulgarians, Estonians, Lithuanians, Romanians and Slovenes. British employers also lose a £ 199 discount on the sponsorship certificate required when applying for a work visa, 24 Chasa writes.
