Bulgaria is looking to buy a second-hand submarine

Acquiring a new submarine at this stage is impossible. We are looking for an opportunity to increase the capabilities of the navy with a second-hand submarine, Commander of the Navy, Rear Admiral Kiril Mihaylov, has told BNT.

We need a submarine that we can use for at least another 10 years at a price we can afford, in order for it not to be a burden on the military and state budgets. It may cost almost nothing, but it can also be very expensive, the Rear Admiral said, giving as an example the two new "mine hunters" acquired in 2020 at a low price thanks to good relations with the Netherlands.
