Today, citizens once again protested against the felling of a 70-year-old coniferous forest in the Gorna Traka area, near Varna. Protesters, who organised a petition for preserving the forest, warn that protests could turn into civic disobedience and blocking of the Varna-Vinitsa road.
According to the Executive Forest Agency, the land includes 33 plots, as 31 belong to the forest fund and two are not part of it. The 4 decares where felling took place are private property, as according to the General Development Plan of Varna the territory is urbanized, with planned construction of up to 30%. Sanitary felling was also carried out in the other private property in order to improve the condition of the private forest.
