Universal rules regarding the anti-epidemic measures are being introduced in tourism for the forthcoming summer season 2021 by order of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Mariyana Nikolova. The aim is to guarantee the health and safety of holidaymakers, and to help Bulgaria uphold its statute of a healthy and safe destination.
The measures are valid for all types of tourism. Protective face masks are mandatory in enclosed public spaces, as is a 1.5 m. distance between individuals. Information panels indicating the maximum number of guests shall be displayed prominently in accommodation establishments. If a guest appears to have Covid-19 they shall be isolated in a room designated for the purpose. The facility shall not be quarantined. According to the rules, on lifeguarded beaches a physical distance of 1.5 metres shall be maintained between individuals. Only 2 people or members of one family shall occupy an area of 20 square metres in unguarded beach zones. One beach umbrella shall be used by a maximum of 2 people or members of one family. In catering establishments tourists are advised to wear masks until they are seated at their table, as well as after getting up.
The rules come into force as of 1 May. In the words of Minister Nikolova, at this time, out of 150,000 people currently employed in the tourist industry, 82,000 have stated they want to be vaccinated.
