Bulgaria expects delivery of Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines

In the last days of March, over 31,000 doses of Pfizer, over 51,000 of Moderna, and over 150,000 of AstraZeneca will be delivered to Bulgaria. A total of at least 650,000 doses are expected to arrive in April, including the vaccine Johnson & Johnson. This was summed up in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio by Bogdan Kirilov, director of Bulgaria's Executive Drug Agency and a member of the vaccination staff.

He explained that with the updated delivery schedules, doses for vaccination of a total of 2.5 million Bulgarians are expected to be provided by June. According to him, Bulgaria has ordered doses for a population of 10 million.

In April Bulgarians will have choice of vaccine, says Prof. Asen Baltov

"Regarding the care of patients with coronavirus during the third wave in Bulgaria, no one can complain - there are no returned patients, patients receive all necessary care." This was said to BNR by Prof. Asen Baltov, director of the Pirogov Hospital for Emergency Medicine in Sofia. He called on people to be more responsible in order to reduce the pressure on hospitals.

According to him, after the beginning of April, when a larger number of vaccines is expected to arrive in Bulgaria, everyone will have the opportunity to choose which type of vaccine to be immunized with. So far, the majority of vaccinations in Bulgaria are carried out with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

An investigation is underway into the death of a Greek student whose family claims he died in Pirogov hospital as a result of vaccination. Baltov clarified that before being admitted to the hospital, the student had suffered a traumatic accident at his home. The student is not registered in Bulgaria's vaccination register, which means that he has not been vaccinated in Bulgaria, Baltov said.

Bulgarian Catholics celebrate a different Palm Sunday this year

The Catholic Christian world celebrates Palm Sunday today. In the Bulgarian town of Rakovski, where the largest Catholic community in Bulgaria lives, this year willow twigs were not distributed to the laymen by the clergymen but people carried them themselves. The celebration began with prayers outdoors in front of the church. They then went inside for the liturgy, as everyone was required to wear masks, Nova TV reported.

Last year, due to the coronavirus crisis, the holiday was not celebrated inside the church.
