All of Bulgaria is in the red zone for Covid-19

All of Bulgaria remains in the red zone of incidence of Covid-19. This is shown by the data on the 14-day morbidity per 100,000 as of March 28, 2021 of the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.

Two districts exceeded 1,000 infections per 100,000 people. These are Sofia and Silistra, BNT reported.

In Vidin, the number of infected people is already 308 per 100,000. Last week the district had a morbidity below 250 per 100,000.

Kyustendil is the only area where the incidence of Covid-19 has decreased. In all other areas there is an increase in the number of new infections compared to last week.

23% of coronavirus tests performed in past 24 hours return positive, 203 new deaths

4,497 is the number of newly registered Covid-19 cases in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours, or 23% of the 19,242 tests performed, Single Coronavirus Information Portal data show. The highest number of new infections is in Sofia – 1,183, followed by the regions of Plovdiv - 391 and Varna - 264.The number of active cases is currently 67,864, the number of hospitalizations is 9,679, of them 752 coronavirus patients are in intensive care.

203 coronavirus patients have died in the past 24 hours, and 3,112 have recovered.The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Bulgaria since the start of the pandemic has reached 333,250, the Covid-19 death toll is 12,913, the number of recoveries has totaled 252,473. A total of 2,078,028 tests have been performed.

9,006 Covid-19 vaccines have been administered over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of shots administered to 445,547.

90,327 people have received their second dose of coronavirus vaccine.

Health minister announces gradual easing of Covid-19 restrictions in Bulgaria as of 1 April

As of 12 April children will be going back to school to a set timetable. Kindergartens and crèches are to reopen on 5 April. Only restaurants with outdoor dining areas are to reopen as of 1 April. This is what a new order of Bulgaria's Health Minister Prof. Kostadin Angelov reads, which was announced earlier today at a briefing after he oversaw the delivery of more than 50,000 doses of Moderna vaccine in Sofia.

Theatres and gyms are to reopen as of 1 April at 30% capacity. Shopping malls and big stores will not reopen with the exception of shops which can provide outdoor space. Night clubs are to remain closed until the end of April.

“The (parliamentary) elections are going to be safe,” Minister Angelov added and urged the public to go out and vote.

“Around 1 million, 1.5 million Bulgarians have immunity and are protected against the coronavirus. Around 500,000 have been infected with Covid-19 and 450,000 because they have been vaccinated,” said Chief State Health Inspector Dr. Angel Kunchev. “These numbers are going to grow by 10-15,000 a day. By the end of April we shall have a free choice of vaccines,” Dr. Angel Kunchev said, as quoted by BGNES.

“That is still not enough to affect the overall epidemic process, but the numbers are sufficient to check the surge in the infection rate. This tendency has been visible as of last week. The country is approaching a plateau in this third wave, new restrictions will only be imposed if necessary,” Dr. Angel Kunchev said.

Prime Minister expects Bulgaria to come out of pandemic by June

At a meeting, the Bulgarian Minister of Health, the Chief Health Inspector and the Prime Minister have discussed gradual easing of anti-coronavirus measures based on the number of vaccinated citizens and recoveries, BTA reported.

In the town of Byala, near Ruse, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov expressed confidence that 230,000 doses of vaccines would be delivered in Bulgaria by the end of March and more than 700,000 by the end of April. Authorities rely on GPs and specialists to administer up to 10,000-15,000 vaccines a day. "This allows for optimism that we would come out of the pandemic in May-June," PM Borissov added.
