Supreme Judicial Council suspends procedure for electing special prosecutor

The Supreme Judicial Council opened and immediately stopped the procedure for electing a special prosecutor to investigate the chief prosecutor and his deputies, reporter Silvia Velikova informed. The reason for this decision is that the Constitutional Court is yet to rule on whether this new legal figure contradicted the Constitution. President Rumen Radev signaled the constitutional judges over the topic immediately after the entry into force of the amendments to the Judiciary Act and the Criminal Procedure Code, adopted by the 44th National Assembly. Judicial staff are expected to express an opinion on the constitutional case later today.
