The old bishopric in Veliko Turnovo, a building of major historical significance to the city, is to be substantially refurbished with half of the 2 million euro allocated at the last regular cabinet sitting.

The St Petka monastery near Asenovgrad is also to undergo conservation and restoration. Founded in the 14th century it was an important literary centre during the National Revival period, with many rare and old manuscripts in its library.

The third temple which will be renovated is the Holy Great-Martyr St. Demetrius of Thessaloniki in Vidin, the second biggest church after the St. Alexander Nevski cathedral in Sofia. There is a unique fresco in the northern part of the church depicting Tsar Petar and St. John of Rila. When the saint refused to meet the Tsar, Petar sent him gifts, but St. Jokn of Rila refused the silver and gold accepting only the fruit.
