The University of Veliko Turnovo St. Cyril and St. Methodius is the first Bulgarian university to open a branch in North Macedonia.

The negotiations for this lasted three years, BNR’s correspondent in Veliko Turnovo Zdravka Maslyankova reports.

The university’s rector Prof. Hristo Bondzholov was assured of the news over the telephone by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev. The government in Skopje is to make a decision on the matter by 23 May. “We shall try, together, to build the bridges that were torn down,” Zoran Zaev said.

The university’s branch in North Macedonia is to start functioning at the International Slavic University "G. R. Derzhavin" in the town of Sveti Nikole.
