Planned changes aimed at eliminating serious problems in healthcare

The National Health Insurance Fund and the Bulgarian Medical Union are starting negotiations for an annex to the National Framework Agreement 2020-2022. This became clear at a meeting held today between the Minister of Health Stoycho Katsarov, the head of the National Health Insurance Fund Prof. Petko Salchev and the chairman of the Bulgarian Medical Union, Dr. Ivan Madjarov.

The annex provides for the effective application of the "money follows the patient" principle, while respecting the patient's right to choose a medical institution; reducing the disparities in the remuneration of physicians; introduction of an electronic document of the medical history; a change in the procedure for the provision of emergency medical care in order to eliminate the 24-hour availability of general practitioners, etc.
