“At the end of 2019, 25 companies were paid 182 million Leva /93 million euro/ in advance by the state-owned Motorways company for the mitigation of 84 landslides and landslips on the road network in the country. The deadline of the contracts is the end of this year but just one landslide has been mitigated so far – the landslide on the road leading to Rila Monastery,” Minister of Regional Development and Public Works in the caretaker government Violeta Komitova announced.

An inspection by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works ascertained that the contracts concluded are only for construction design, equipment hire and delivery of materials but that there are no construction permits. None of the companies paid these sums came to the meeting scheduled by Minister Komitova at which they were supposed to provide more information about their activities.

The projects will be submitted to the supervisory authorities for detailed inspection.
