President Rumen Radev: US sanctions are diagnosis of a regime that fostered corruption

Speaking to reporters, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev praised the US government's determination to support Bulgarian society in its quest for more transparency and justice.

"The very fact that such sanctions are imposed on Bulgarian citizens and companies is a clear diagnosis of a regime that fostered this corruption, but this is just the first step," President Radev commented. He said he keeps communication with the caretaker cabinet about the measures taken by US authorities under the so-called Magnitsky Act and warned that they would affect anyone who has business relations with those subject to US sanctions.

President Radev expressed regret that revealing major financial crimes came from across the ocean and not from the Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office.
