"It is important for the public to learn the name of the political leader who received bribes", Bulgaria's caretaker Minister of Justice Yanaki Stoilov said for bTV. Several days ago, the United States sanctioned six Bulgarians, including businessmen Vasil Bozhkov and Delyan Peevski for “their extensive role in corruption in Bulgaria”. The statement of the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Contol (OFAC) alleged that businessman Vasil Bozhkov had bribed government officials on several occasions. “These officials include a current political leader and the former chairman of the now-abolished State Commission on Gamling”, reads the  statement of the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.

In Minister Stoilov’s view, more than one politician received bribes. “Certain people and companies were protected and received benefits and this could not have happened without individuals holding state positions", noted Yanaki Stoilov.
