Municipalities have paid 5 million Leva for disinfectants for the election premises at the parliamentary elections held in April this year. This was made clear at a meeting of the National Association of Municipalities with interim PM Stefan Yanev.
According to the association this money came from the local budgets and was never refunded. The representatives of the municipalities were adamant that national elections must not be financed locally, and demanded that the Council of Ministers budget for additional money for disinfection. It was also stated that the mayors received letters from the regional governors asking them to check which addresses have 30-40 people registered at them. However, the municipality representatives stated they do not have the capacity to check every single address.
