Bulgaria has asked Moldova for help in investigating illegal transplants

Bulgaria's General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime is investigating 14 transplants performed at the Sofia-based Lozenets Hospital. Bulgaria has asked the Moldovan authorities for help in the case because most donors are from there, said Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov.

The investigation began after Health Minister Stoycho Katsarov submitted the results of the inspections to the Interior Ministry. At the moment, the investigation is at an extremely early stage, Rashkov said.
"The initial data are that gross violations of the law and medical practice have been committed. The perpetrators must be identified and handed over to the prosecution and the court", Rashkov said.
