As of 1 July the border check point at Ilinden-Exochi will be open to cars and tourists.
The news was announced by the Greek Foreign Ministry’s chief secretary and was confirmed by Bulgaria’s consul general in Thessaloniki Vladimir Pisanchev.
Owing to the pandemic the border check point was closed for one year to cars and tourists which led to protests by businesses on either side of the border who threatened to block off Kulata border check point unless the problem was resolved. As of 1 July the Promachonas border check point will also be reinforced with an additional 20 police officers.
Greece is also expected to open its border with the Republic of North Macedonia at Bogorodica border check point which will relieve pressure at Kulata-Promachonas.
