Bulgaria implements Europe’s new campaign for prevention of human trafficking

The most common form of human trafficking is for the purpose of sexual exploitation, according to official data from the European Commission. Another attempt to combat modern "slavery" is the "Blind Betting" campaign. It is entirely created by a Bulgarian team, but will be implemented on the territory of 26 European countries. Some of them are countries of origin of victims, such as Bulgaria, others are defined as destination countries, where traffickers use their victims.

Under the slogan "Don't gamble with your future", the campaign aims to draw the attention of the public and risk groups to the problem. The campaign will take place in two stages. From June 28 to July 31, the focus will be on the risks of human trafficking for sexual exploitation, and in the period from October 18 to November 30 we will learn more about the so-called "users" of sexual services provided by victims of trafficking who are also criminally liable.

The Blind Betting campaign is supported by the Directorate General for Combating Organized Crime and the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings with the support of the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT).

Experts remind that dreams of a better and easier life unconsciously, and sometimes as a conscious choice, can lead to violence, addiction, fear and even shame to try to get out of the situation in which you find yourself. But there is always a way out and the victim must know that there are people who will help them rebuild their lives. Experts advise that if you are in trouble abroad, you should immediately contact the Bulgarian representation in the country. Even if you have your documents taken away from you or you do not speak and understand the language in the country you are in - seek help from the police, a non-governmental organization working with people in need and your loved ones.
