US F-16 fighter aircraft from the 31st Fighter Wing US Air Force Unit in Europe flew over Bulgaria from Aviano Air Base in Italy, as part of the Thracian Star 21 exercise.

Bulgaria will take part in the exercises with SU-25 ground attack aircraft, Mi-24 helicopters, Cougar and Bell. This country restricted the use of MiG-29s due to the 9 June incident in which a pilot was killed. Bulgarian anti-aircraft missile units will take part in Thracian Star 21. Graf Ignatievo air base will provide the air traffic control and logistics for the American F-16s. The training flights will take place over the air space of Bulgaria, Greece and Romania.
