Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov says hundreds of citizens have been wiretapped

Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov in parliament

Hundreds of Bulgarian citizens have been wiretapped at the request of the specialized prosecutor’s office and with the permission of the specialized court, stated caretaker Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov in parliament, during a hearing requested by GERB-SDS.

The opposition coalition wanted Rashkov to give information about which politicians and citizens have been wrongfully wiretapped. Desislava Atanasova, chair of the GERB-SDS parliamentary group described the topic as “pre-election hullaballoo” and noted that the probes have not established that any one of the candidates, the president, the vice president, the caretaker prime minister or any party leaders have been wiretapped. Minister Rashkov once again promised to present proof of the illegal use of the results of special intelligence means.
