Expensive electricity causes dissatisfaction in Bulgarian industry

Electricity prices in Bulgaria are 50 percent higher than those in the main export markets for Bulgarian industry - Germany, Italy, France, Austria. This is stated in a letter from the Association of the Organizations of Bulgarian Employers to the Prime Minister. Industrialists are to start preparing for nation-wide protests if the government did not take measures against the artificial deficit created in order to maintain high prices. It is pointed out that some of Bulgaria's main power plants work at 25% of their capacity while at the same time electricity is exported abroad.

"The situation has deeply aggravated the competitive position on the pan-European market, which shows unacceptable and irresponsible behavior of the competent institutions," the letter reads.
