Time for new Covid restrictions is near, number of unoccupied hospital beds declines

Restrictions may enter into force next week because of the rising number of new coronavirus infections, Minister of Health Dr. Stoycho Katsarov has told bTV. Almost the entire country is expected to enter the orange zone in a few days.

According to the minister, the most important is whether Bulgaria would be able to provide enough hospital beds. Currently, the number of hospitalized patients is 2001 as the capacity is 2,500 beds without affecting other types of treatment.

"What experts worry about is the rapidly growing number of infected people," Dr. Stoycho Katsarov said, adding that the first measures should be related to restrictions on mass gatherings. It is possible that the restrictions would not apply to vaccinated people.
