Tourist season summer 2021 – successful but brief

Photo: library

The summer season in Bulgaria in the conditions of pandemic is relatively successful, the Ministry of Tourism reported last week.

In the months of June, July and August the number of tourists who have holidayed on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is up by 70% compared to 2020, with the tourists in the Black Sea resorts being predominantly from Romania and Bulgaria. 3.7 million tourists chose to spend their vacation in the country this summer.

The municipalities of Varna, Primorsko and Nessebar welcomed the highest number of holidaymakers, with practically no vacancies at some of the hotels there.  However, hotel operators say that the high occupancy rate at the height of the short summer season, which this year lasted no more than 40 days, cannot compensate for the losses incurred during the epidemic restrictions since the beginning of the year, or for the lack of adequate support by the state.
