The Turkish owner of the cargo ship Vera Su which ran aground near the protected area Yaylata is not taking action to rescue the ship intentionally, in order to benefit from the insurance, Bulgaria’s caretaker Minister of Transport Hristo Alexiev said in Varna, quoted by BNR Varna.
Minister Alexiev has come to this conclusion after meetings with representatives of the salvage company and the insurers of the ship and the cargo. The foreign salvage company has submitted a plan to resolve the situation but so far, the owner of Vera Su has not assigned this company with the task to rescue their cargo vessel. Bulgaria is taking measures to syphon off the ship’s fuel and lubricants, in order to reduce the risk of a spill to 95%, Minister Alexiev pointed out.
