Boris Bekyarov, an associate of fugitive businessman Vassil Bojkov, who is hiding out in Dubai, has returned to Bulgaria and has been detained for 24 hours.

In February the prosecutor’s office brought charges against him, in absentia, of being part of an organized crime group, and a European arrest warrant was issued. According to sources close to the investigation, Bekyarov was detained in Vienna. In an interview with the BNR, a spokesperson for the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office neither denied nor confirmed that Bekyarov had turned himself in.

The 66-year old mathematician and businessman Boris Bekyarov demonstrated a willingness to cooperate, writes the e-edition of 24 Chasa. As an associate of Vassil Bojkov, Bekyarov was included in the extended Magnitsky Act sanctions list.
