“Unless the Republic of North Macedonia alters its conduct in bilateral relations with Bulgaria, it cannot expect what it has persistently been suggesting – that this country makes concessions under outside pressure.” This is the position expressed by Prof. Angel Dimitrov, co-chair of the joint inter-disciplinary expert commission on historical and educational issues between the two countries in an interview for the BNR.

He added the US may be holding talks with North Macedonia on its position, and described what American diplomacy, but also the EU is doing as double standards. In the words of Prof. Dimitrov, the principal positions expressed by the parliaments of Bulgaria and North Macedonia make it impossible to find serious political compromises.
