All vaccines administered in Bulgaria are within the shelf life approved for the respective product. There are vaccines that have expired, but they are not used and are to be destroyed, the Executive Director of the Bulgarian Drug Agency, Bogdan Kirilov, said at a briefing.
He recalled that in September, the European Medicines Agency recommended extending the shelf life of the Pfizer vaccine from 6 to 9 months, which is valid for all batches produced after June 1. That is how for some vaccines there is a difference in the information on the expiration date placed on the package and the actual approved date. By the end of the week the same is expected to happen with the Moderna vaccine.
