Over half of minimum salary in Bulgaria goes for rent

Bulgaria is among the five EU member states where workers at minimum wage are left with less than half of their income after paying their rent (the other four countries are Spain, Luxembourg, Hungary and Portugal). This was reported by CITUB, referring to a study by the European Trade Union Confederation, conducted on the eve of the forthcoming discussion on the directive on adequate minimum wages in the European Parliament, reporter Maria Kostova informed.

According to CITUB data, 500,000 working Bulgarians receive minimum monthly salary of 332 euros. According to estimates, the required net income for 1 adult living alone in Bulgaria is 546 euros a month.
