The leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, Kornelia Ninova has resigned.
Commenting on the fact that the spokesman for the caretaker cabinet Anton Kutev demanded her resignation over the election results, Kornelia Ninova stated:
“The caretaker cabinet should take care of the crises, not try to do engineering within the BSP. I am assuming the entire responsibility. My only crime is that I said nothing when I should have been talking and telling the truth,” Ninova said. “The election results of the BSP are disastrous, especially the fact that we dropped down from third to fourth position as a result of the votes for the Movement for Rights and Freedoms from Turkey,” she added.
“We received an invitation for talks on a government, we accepted the invitation. We are starting negotiations on the formation of a government with Kiril Petkov and Assen Vassilev,” Kornelia Ninova said further.
Ninova will remain the leader of the BSP until a party congress has been summoned where her resignation needs to be accepted. This is expected to take place in January. The new chairperson of the party will be elected via direct voting.
