On November 19, we mark the Day of the Bulgarian Land Forces. Land Forces Day is celebrated on the 136th anniversary of the Serbian-Bulgarian War and the victory at Slivnitsa. On this occassion, Major General Mikhail Popov, Commander of Bulgaria’s Land Forces, said that the project for the acquisition of new infantry vehicles must resume, which is of great importance for the modernization of the Bulgarian army.

According to a recent report of Bulgaria’s caretaker cabinet, the delayed implementation of the project impedes Bulgaria’s committments to NATO. „The formation of a heavy armored mechanized infantry brigade is seriously lagging behind“, the report notes.

General Popov expects that the modernization of Kalashnikov machine gun, which is the main infantry weapon of the Bulgarian Land Forces, will begin in 2022.
