The leaders of European institutions have reacted to the tragic accident on the Struma motorway in Bulgaria.

In these terrible times, Europe stands in solidarity with you," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote on Twitter.

"Our thoughts are with the victims from the horrific accident in Bulgaria, their families, and all the front-line workers. Wishing the injured a speedy recovery. Stay strong. The EU is ready to provide support in any way we can," President of the European Council Charles Michel wrote.

"Terrible to hear that at least 45 people, among them a dozen children, died in a bus accident in Bulgaria last night. Our sincere condolences and much strength to their families and friends.
