New entry rules: No PCR requirement for arrivals to Bulgaria with EU digital Covid certificate

New rules for entry into Bulgaria come into force as of 1 December. The requirement for a PCR test for arrivals from the “red zone” who have a green certificate shall be waived.  A PCR test for arrivals from countries where the 14-day incidence rate is over 500 per 100,000 residents shall not be required.

If arrivals to Bulgaria come from “red zone” countries and do not have a valid EU digital Covid certificate for test, recovery or vaccination, they shall be subject to a 10-day quarantine. Even without a green certificate, quarantine can be waived for arrivals from the “green” or “orange” zone provided they take a PCR or antigen test within 72 hours of arrival. If the result is negative quarantine shall be waived. 

As of Sunday, November 28, Bulgaria has been closed to persons arriving from Mozambique, Botswana, South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Namibia and Zimbabwe, with the exception of Bulgarian citizens or citizens with permanent, long-term or long-term residence in Bulgaria as they are subject to a mandatory 10-day quarantine.
