“There is no confirmed case of the new coronavirus variant Omicron in Bulgaria,” Prof. Iva Hristova, head of the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases stated for the BNR, following the confirmed Omicron infection of two Romanian citizens returning from South Africa on the same airplane as 10 Bulgarian nationals.
“No Omicron case has been proven in Bulgaria even though the search is on very strenuously. We have sent letters to the laboratories to send the Omicron-suspicious test samples for DNA analysis, as well as the border control samples of people returning from Africa. All of them are analyzed exclusively at the National Centre but at the moment everything is Delta variant,” Prof. Hristova explained.
