Bulgaria’s new Prime Minister Kiril Petkov has signaled that Sofia will end its obstruction of North Macedonia’s bid to join the EU. In an interview for the Financial Times, Premier Petkov reaffirmed Bulgaria’s commitment to NATO and the west. “We are on the right side of NATO and EU policies, 100 per cent”, Kiril Petkov told the Financial Times.

“We will propose a new process on North Macedonia, very fast, with a limited time frame, just 6 months long”, Kiril Petkov said.

North Macedonia’s Premier Zoran Zaev congratulated Bulgaria’s new Premier in a phone conversation. Premiers Petkov and Zaev agreed to continue working towards an acceptable solution that would unblock the accession talks between Skopje and the EU, BGNES reported.
