Bulgaria and Argentina mark 90 years of diplomatic relations

The 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Argentina was marked with a video mapping on the facade of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires. The attractive presentation was organized by the Embassy of Bulgaria and the Ministry of Culture of Argentina.

Diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Argentina were established in 1931 when Argentina's first diplomatic representative and ambassador to Bulgaria, Ricardo Olivera, presented his credentials to the Bulgarian Tsar Boris III,  Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry reported. Argentina is the first country in Latin America with which Bulgaria established diplomatic relations.

The Bulgarian community in Argentina began to form in the early 20th century, and in 1929 there were already about 10 thousand Bulgarian emigrants living there who left Bulgaria for economic or political reasons.

The first Bulgarians settled in the Chaco Province as well as in the cities of Berisso  (Buenos Aires Province) and Comodoro Rivadavia (Chubut Province). Today, the descendants of these immigrants keep alive the Bulgarian spirit by creating associations, an internet radio and even a television channel.
