"The Omicron coronavirus variant, which is storming Europe, will hit Bulgaria after the Christmas and New Year holidays. The new pandemic peak will come on January 4 and 5", Bulgaria’s Chief State Health Inspector Dr. Angel Kunchev predicted in an interview for bTV.
"The Omicron variant doubles the Covid-19 cases every two or three days. The good news is that fewer people are admitted to hospital. However, hospitals will be full again, because the new coronavirus variant affects too many patients", Angel Kunchev noted.
"Bulgaria is entering the new pandemic peak with an extremely high number of active cases. Despite, the vaccination campaign, 15% of Bulgarians will not get Covid-19 vaccines and 45% are hesitant. The health authorities will soon decide whether the booster shot must be administered six or three months after the second vaccine. A single Janssen Covid-19 vaccine booster shot may be administered at least 2 months after the primary vaccination, Associate Professor Kunchev clarified.
