The start of the new year marks 15 years since Bulgaria’s full membership of the European Union.

In an address to the nation, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov stated that the time had come for Bulgaria to play an active and constructive role in the development of the Union.

“We should no longer be in the periphery. We need to be a motor, a member giving the best of its intellectual capacity for the development of our own country, which shall then develops the entire European Union. As a government it is our task to make Bulgaria’s voice heard,” PM Petkov said.

The European Council for Nuclear Research, CERN, is the first European structure of which Bulgaria became a full member in 1999.
