Bulgaria has purchased modern IFF systems (identification friend or foe) for the needs of the Bulgarian army. The deal was confirmed by the Ministry of Defence after a month ago it was announced by the specialized foreign language publication for defense The Defense Post, BNR reported. This was done through the NATO Communication and Information Agency, which negotiated the systems with a German radar manufacturer.

The Ministry did not specify the amount paid, but according to the publication the contract is "for millions of euros".

The IFF technology increases the ability of the armed forces to avoid friendly fire. Although they have been for many years part of NATO, Bulgarian fighters did not have such a system of identification.
