The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions, CITUB has demanded that the minimum monthly salary for this year be raised to 730 Leva (EUR 373), instead of 710 Leva (EUR 363), as proposed by Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev.

At a discussion forum on restricting low-paid labour, data were made public that over 870,000 people in Bulgaria receive minimum monthly pay, or close to that sum. Data show that in the whole of Europe, Albania and Montenegro are the only countries in which the minimum salary is lower than it is in Bulgaria. In North Macedonia the minimum pay is 20% higher than it is in Bulgaria.

The CITUB expects the official inflation for December 2021 to reach 8% year-over-year, compared to the last month of 2020.
