On January 13, 1915, the first Bulgarian feature film "Balgaran e Galant" was premiered in Sofia’s Modern Theatre. The film was directed by Vasil Gendov who also wrote the screenplay and played the lead alongside actress Mara Miyateva.
Gendov is an author of other works, including the first film dedicated to Vasil Levski - "The Rebellion of the Slaves" released in 1933.
