A woman regained her hearing after undergoing cochlear implant surgery in Burgas. A cochlear implant is an electronic device which helps deaf people regain their hearing. The 42-year old patient lost her hearing at the age of 2 as a result of a viral infection, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports.
“We turned the device on, and tears welled up in the patient’s eyes. But as her hearing, and her speech have remained at the level of a 2-year old, she is now to undergo rehabilitation – learning to hear, to speak, to understand what words sound like,” Dr. Tsvetelina Grigorova from the hospital’s ear, nose and throat ward.
