Foreign investments decreased by 50% in 2021, Kalin Slavov, head of Transparency International Bulgaria, has told BNR. Prior to the announcement of the International Corruption Perceptions Index 2021, he pointed out that this was a clear indicator of the trends in this country.

"We see one of the lowest historical values we have had," Slavov said. According to him, the situation can be explained by the long rule of caretaker governments and the pandemic.

On a scale from 0 to 100, with 0 being the highest level of corruption, the average index for the EU is 64 and that for Bulgaria is 42. “We are stable at the bottom of the chart," Slavov pointed out.
