The number of scientists employed at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has been constantly decreasing, Academician Julian Revalski, President of BAS warned. He presented to the National Assembly Committee on Education and Science a 2020 report on the activities of academicians.

According to the report, between 50 and 70 scientists leave BAS each year due to low salaries. For example, the starting salary of assistants and senior assistants employed at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is more than 30% lower than in higher education. The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has run out of funds for capital investment. It needs EUR 30 million to improve its material base.
