Joanna Ternyanova from the Bulgarian weekend school Saints Cyril and Methodius in Barcelona, who is in the 5th grade, persuaded her Catalonian classmates to publish a book of short stories together. Their goal is to sell it and raise money for their school. Half of the stories in the 30-page book are in Catalan, and the other half – in Spanish. Six of the stories are by Joanna.
The children organized charity bazaars throughout the year even though it hasn’t been easy for them because of the anti-pandemic restrictions.
Until 2019 the children spent part of the money raised by selling old books and calendars with their drawings on trips to different parts of Spain at the beginning of their summer vacation.
Besides a vivid imagination and writing skills, which have earned Joanna the award for best essay in Catalan three times, the girl from Bulgaria has other talents as well – she plays the piano, sings and draws.
